Mckagans Warrior Women is so pleased to announce that as of 2018 we will be donating 2% of all class fee proceeds to our chosen charity.
In keeping with the ethos of Warrior Women (women supporting women) we will be donating to a UK charity called ‘Beyond the Streets’ who work on behalf of women exploited by prostitution.
The reasons for women finding themselves affected by prostitution are wide and varied and the physical and psychological effects can be deep and long lasting often leaving people with a loss of self, a loss of confidence, deep sadness, depression and feelings of worthlessness and shame. While great work has been (and continues to be) done in the field of mental health there still remains a huge stigma around the area of prostitution and many women feel they cannot talk about their experiences past or present for fear of being judged negatively. Anything we can do to help challenge and change this attitude we will endeavour to do as nobody deserves to feel powerless, trapped, worthless, ashamed and scared.
Beyond the Streets was set up in 1999 and their vision is to see a world where people are free from sexual exploitation and where those involved in prostitution have the option to pursue genuine alternatives, free from constraints such as drug use, abusive relationships and poverty’.
Their work covers three areas:
Direct Support – Via a 24 hour support line
Developing and equipping projects – Working with and setting up local community projects to help women in the local area affected by prostitution.
Changing the context – Raising awareness and challenging attitudes around the wider issues of sexual exploitation.
